In the 1980’s there were a lot of interesting snacks to choose from when visiting your local shop. There was especially a lot of quirky brands of crisps one of which was Piglet Crisps.
What Were Piglet Crisps
Piglet crisps were produced by Burtons and were potato crisps that came in the shape of small pigs (piglets). Not just flat potato crips either, these were 3D shaped crisps. Burtons also produced Potato Puff crisps (similar to Wotsits) and I do believe the same production processes were used to make the little piglet potato snacks.

There were so many different varieties of crisps growing up in the 1980’s that came in all shapes, flavours and sizes that my memory is a little hazy. But I can confirm that pickled onion flavoured crisps were available along with Smokey Bacon ones too. You couldn’t release piglet crisps without making them smokey bacon, could you?
The Big Bad Wolf and the Piglets
More worryingly though was that a wolf did appear on the front of the crisp packet at one point. Although a cartoon pig also did feature during the snack’s life on the shop shelves of the United Kingdom.
What Were the Crisps Like to Eat?
The crisps themselves were very thin and came in small bags, but I always remember enjoying them (but I was very young). From my recollection they were a cheaper packet of crisps compared to your major brands of the time such as Golden Wonder and Walkers (who are still very much around today). A cheap little snack to keep your child quiet when out shopping.
