Frosties Sweets – What Happened to Them?

(Last Updated On: December 4, 2023)

We often think back to the snacks and sweets from our childhood and wonder what happened to them or if they are still around. One that stumbled into my mind recently were Frosties sweets.

A favourite of mine from days gone by when a trip to the local sweet shop or newsagent was a much anticipated event. Coming home with some Frosties was always a good day.

What Were Frosties Sweets?

Frosties sweets were made by the famous sweet maker Barratts Sweets and were very popular with all ages. They were also a very cheap treat with prices being as low as 5p a pack back in the 1980’s.

Frosties were a sugar coated round cola flavoured sweet with a chewy centre. They came in individual foil wrappers to stop them from sticking to each other. You had to peel the foil off each sweet, but this did prevent a stick mess of stuck together Frosties in your pocket.

Later on, Frosties were produced in a single foil wrapped sleeve with an outer paper cover. This brought the range into line with other similar sweets that were produced by Barratts.

Can You Still Buy Frosties Sweets?

Sadly, you cannot still buy Frosties Sweets although they were only discontinued fairly recently in 2015. There are several Barratt sweets still available today, but Frosties sadly are not one of them.

Frosties like Panda Pops Fizzy Drinks were a very sugary and sweet treat which was widely acceptable back in the early 1980s when they were first made.

However today that is not the case and demand fell ultimately making the decision to discontinue them rather than trying to make a healthy alternative version of the sweets, better suited to the concerns of modern-day parents.

Alternatives to Frosties You Can Still Buy Today

Let’s be honest Frosties sweets were inspired by the very popular cola cubes which you can still buy today.

With a variety of sweets shops across the UK that still hold a large stock of jars of sweets you can still find cola cubes in most towns and cities. Such shops as Mr Simms sell Cola Cubes online and in their shops.

I have always been a fan of cola flavoured sweets and always thought they were a delicious treat from the sweet shop.
