I loved watching the 1971 Disney movie Bedknobs and Broomsticks when I was a young kid. It is one of the first films that I can remember watching that was part live action and part animation. It is a very memorable family movie, but do you remember Ian Weighill?

Who Is Ian Weighill from Bedknobs and Broomsticks?
Ian Weighill is an English actor who played Charlie Rawlins in Disney’s 1971 movie Bedknobs and Broomsticks. He played the oldest of three Rawlins children in the movie.
In the movie he starred alongside:
- Angela Lansbury – Miss Price
- David Tomlinson – Emelius
- Roddy McDowall – Mr Jelk
- Paul Rawlins – Roy Snart
- Carrie Rawlins – Cindy O’Callaghan
His Role of Charlie Rawlins in the Movie
In the movie Charlie is evacuated from London during the Second World War with his younger brother Paul and sister Carrie. They are sent to stay with Miss Eglatine Price played by the legendary Angela Lansbury.
The children try to runaway back to their parents in London but discover Miss Price trying to fly on a broomstick. She is actually an apprentice witch who is learning witchcraft to be able to help the British war effort.
Miss Price makes a deal with the children that in return for their silence she will give them a magical transportation spell. She then casts a spell on a bedknob that Charlie and his siblings can use to travel anywhere they wish.
A magical adventure ensues which if you have never seen the movie, I highly recommend you do.
Ian Weighill’s Career after Bedknobs and Broomsticks
Ian Weighill and the other child actors became household names overnight. Ian however stepped away from acting and seemed to disappear completely from the public eye.
He has appeared in documentary films and interviews about Bedknobs and Broomsticks over the years. It has since been reported that he has a career as a train driver for Southwest Trains.
Where Is Ian Weighill Now?
Ian was last seen on the BBC’s One Show in 2016 where all the three actors who played the Rawlins children reunited for a feature on the show. You watch a video of the reunion below.
